Movers and Shakers
Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus noted the poor distribution of wealth as the Roman Republic grew in power. They attempted land reform to make sure regular people had enough land to live on. Both brothers were killed for their efforts.
Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher who was a part of the European Enlightenment movement. He was a big proponent of using reason in order to solve the problems of the world. His book 'Critique of Pure Reason" is one of his most popular works. |
Today, film maker Michael Moore fights for a more equal distribution of wealth in the United States. He has made several films showing the poor state of American policies. All his films has been very provocative and have served to educate not only Americans about the poor state of their governments policies, but warns other countries of the dangers of complacency.
Bill Maher hosts "Real Time With Bill Maher' on HBO. He laments that lack of reason on the part of the American people. Like Michael Moore, he too wishes to see a more balanced society in America. Maher also laments the spread of the Christian religious right. |
